Water loss in a pool: how to tell and what to do
Evaporation and splashing are normal; but if the water level drops noticeably every day, a leak is suspected. First mark the daily level at the same time, then visually inspect the technical room.

Simple check
- Place a level mark at the pool edge at the same time every day
- Note whether the drop continues when the filter is off
- Look for dampness or dripping on pipes and connections in the technical room
Possible causes
- Blistering of the lining or opened joints
- Leaks at pipe, valve or pump connections
- Skimmers and surrounding connection points
When to call a specialist
If the drop is daily and continuous, the leak point needs to be tested on site. Repairing a leak by guesswork often leads to unnecessary cost; photographs and the values you have marked speed up the diagnosis.
Frequently asked questions
Does renewing the lining solve the leak?
Not if the leak comes from the pipe or a connection rather than the lining; so the source must be found first.
